Tips for passing driving theory test
You’re about to embark on a journey of learning to drive and it is time to consider preparing for your theory test. Although arguably less stressful than the practical test, the pressure of needing to pass the theory test beforehand can be worrying.

Here at Arrow Driving Academy, we believe that we have the knowledge and experience to provide you with the highest standard of support. Therefore, we have compiled a blog post full of top tips to help you achieve success when taking your theory test.

The first step is booking your test;

When taking this step you need to consider what date is convenient for you. We recommend that you should give yourself at least a few weeks in order to give yourself time to prepare for it. Theory tests can be booked online at www.dsa.gov.uk or alternatively you can call the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) on 0300 200 1122. Your theory test will take place at one of the various test centres in your area. The theory test centre in Hull is located in the city centre, on Bond Street. However, for more details or to find your local theory test centre, please visit https://www.gov.uk/driving-theory-test-centre.
Next, you need to revise;

Once your theory test is booked, it is important that you begin revising the appropriate information to ensure success. The theory test includes 50 multiple questions out of thousands of possible questions. You will need to achieve 90% correct answers in order to pass. The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) have created a Theory Test Handbook, to guide you through this process and provide you with the essential information.

Practising Hazard Perception;

During the theory test, you will have to complete both the multiple choice question test AND the hazard perception test. The hazard perception test includes a variety of short video clips. These videos will include a selection of driving hazards that you will need to spot quickly and efficiently. Here at Arrow, we provide support and resources necessary for passing this part of the theory test. You simply need to familiarise yourself with the programme involved. This will include practising scanning the road for danger and identifying any distractions.

Taking a Mock Test;

When you believe that you are ready to take your theory test, it can be extremely useful to take a Mock Test. Here at Arrow Driving Academy, we will do anything to help you pass first time. Which is why we offer FREE access to all of our students to a fantastic online resource Theory Test Pro. This is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and has everything you will need to prepare you for the test. To acquire your log in details, please visit http://www.arrowdrivingacademy.co.uk/driving-lessons-hull-east-yorkshire/driving-theory-test and follow the link provided.

It’s always a great idea to practice with your friends and family who have already completed the test. They will be able to quiz you on your existing driving knowledge and extend your understanding in any areas you are struggling with.

What you need on the day;

Once you feel you are truly ready for the theory test, it is important that you are aware of the things you will need on the day of your test.

– We recommend that you plan to arrive at the theory test centre 30 minutes prior to your test. Not only will this give you time to fill in any necessary documents before your test, but it will also reduce stress when finding the location and arriving on time.

– Ensure that you take your provisional driving license. Your license photo card will be needed on the day. If you haven’t paid the fee already, you will also need your credit/debit card.

– Use your time effectively when you arrive! You are given 15 minutes of practice time prior to your test. We recommend that you use this as it will allow you to familiarise yourself with the programme and the layout of the test. This will prepare you to the highest extent and enable you to achieve your full potential.

– There is also a 3 minute break between the first part of the test and the second part of the test. This means that when you have completed the multiple choice questions, you will be given a breather. Although you will be eager to finish the test, we recommend using these 3 minutes to recollect your thoughts and prepare yourself for the hazard perception test that will follow.
